Thai Air Asia Student Pilot Application Requirements & Procedures

The requirements are as follows:

  • Thai national, male or female, age below 30 years old (applicable date of birth not before October 01, 1988)

  • Male, exempted from military service

  • University graduate with a Bachelorís Degree

  • Good command of both spoken and written English

  • TOEIC / TOEFL / IELTS (within ONE year)

  • Excellent health and good eye sight 

    • Applicants who wear glasses or contact lenses are allowed up to -300

    • Applicants who had LASIK or PRK operations must wait one year before applying

  • Minimum height of 165 cms. for males, 163 cms. for females

  Applicants who failed the Aptitude Test are not allowed to reapply until after a 6-month period.

  • Applicants will receive an email to confirm the seat number for the Group Written Test. Applicants must print out the email on A4 paper, and present it to the examiner at the examination along with the applicant's Thai Identification Card.

GROUP WRITTEN TEST (08:00 - 12:30) AT THAMMASAT UNIVERSITY (RANGSIT CAMPUS), PAHOLYOTHIN ROAD: Please check date at www.thaiairasiapilot.com

  • The Group Written Test is completely in English. The test is in two parts:  

    • The Technical Knowledge Test is to test applicants' proficiency levels in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, general science, aviation, and general knowledge. The test has 100 questions over a 100-minute period.

    • The English Knowledge / Aptitude Tests both have 100 questions. The total time for these tests is 2 hours.

      • The English Knowledge Test (TOEFL level) is to test the applicant's ability in reading comprehension, structure, grammar, usage, vocabulary, conversation, and written expression.

      • The Aptitude Test will test applicants' abilities in speed scanning, spatial orientation, logical thinking, perception, and short-term memory.

  • Applicants must be at the test room on time. They must also wear shirt and tie, and bring their returned email application ID bill, Thai  ID card, and some pens, pencils (2B), and erasers. Applicants are not allowed to take computers, calculators, mobile phones, or other personal belongings into the test room.

  • Applicants must pass the Group Written Test with a score of at least 60% in order to qualify for the next step.

     A LOT of student pilots FAIL the Group Written Test because they think they don't need to prepare!!!

  • Applicants who pass the Group Written Test are required to submit qualification documents.

  • Two 1-inch recent photographs (taken in colour within 3 months of the application date)

  • Thai identification card or government employee card

  • House registration certificate / book

  • Authentic certificate of exemption from military service

  • Educational documents:

    • Bachelorís Degree and Bachelorís Degree Transcript

    • TOEIC / TOEFL / IELTS (optional) certified score report

      • Validity must cover the e-application period

  Applicants must provide originals of all documents and one photocopy of each document.

 

  Applicants with fake or fraudulently obtained military service exemption certificates will not be allowed to test.

  • All Student Pilot applicants are required to have a Medical Examination.

  • The fee for the Medical Examination is 1,600 Baht per person. Applicants must pay this on the day of the examination. It is non-refundable.

  • Applicants must:  

    • Not eat any food after 8 pm on the day before the Medical Examination. Applicants can drink a little water if it is really necessary.

    • Applicants must wear shirt and tie, and bring their application ID, Thai ID card, and some pens, pencils, and erasers.

    • Applicants will have an English Language Group Listening Test. This includes tests of English and technical knowledge.

    • All applicants will also be required to take a psychology (personal) paper test with approximately 250 questions.

    • Applicants must be at the listening room on time. They must also wear shirt and tie, and bring their application ID and Thai identification card.

  • INTERVIEW WITH THE THAI AIR ASIA PILOT SELECTION COMMITTEE, THAI AIR ASIA OFFICE, OSC BUILDING, KINGKAEW ROAD: Please check dates at www.thaiairasiapilot.com

    • All applicants will have a 20-30 minute interview with 3-4 Thai Air Asia staff (1 or 2 captains, chief pilot, HR manager, CEO, ...).

    • Usually only 2 of the staff will talk to you. The other staff will watch you, and check your reactions when they stress or pressure you. The selection committee want to check you are serious to be an Air Asia pilot, that you have the ability to work well under pressure, and that you can do 2 or 3 things at the same time. (This usually includes solving mathematics problems.)

    • Applicants must be at the meeting room on time. They must also wear shirt and tie, and bring their applicant ID and Thai identification card.

    • This test is from 8 am - 12 noon at Briefing Room No. 1, 3rd Floor. Applicants must arrive at the test room no later than 07:30 am.

    • Applicants must wear a shirt and tie, and bring along a one-inch recent photograph, their application ID, Thai ID card, glasses (if necessary), and some pens, pencils, and erasers.

    • The fee for the test is 900 Baht per person. Applicants must pay this on the day of the examination. It is non-refundable.

  • Aviation Psychological Individual Test (Please check date at www.thaiairasiapilot.com):

    • This test is from 08:15 - 13:00 at Room No. 223, 2nd Floor.

    • Applicants will be tested by aviation psychologists.

    • Applicants must be at the meeting room on time. Applicants must wear a shirt and tie, and bring along their applicant ID, and Thai ID card.

Thai Air Asia Qualified Pilot Application Requirements & Procedures

The requirements for pilots with command experience and Thai ATPL are as follows:

  • Thai national, age below 55 years old (applicable date of birth from October 01, 1962 onwards)

  • Exempted from military service

  • University graduate with a Bachelorís Degree

  • Good command of both spoken and written English

  • TOEIC / TOEFL / IELTS (within ONE year) or ICAO English (minimum level 4)

  • Graduated from a flying school recognised by the Thai Department of Civil Aviation

  • Holding a Thai CAA Commercial Pilotís Licence

  • Currently flying fixed-wing aircraft (only)

  • Minimum Hours: 

    • 4,000+ total flight time and

    • 500+ P-I-C hours (A320/A330/A340) or

    • 1,000+ P-I-C hours in aircraft equipped with EFIS/FMS or

    • 2,500+ P-I-C hours in airline operations (MPA > 20,000kg)

The requirements for pilots with NO command experience, and Thai ATPL or Thai CPL are as follows:

  • Thai national, age below 40 years old (applicable date of birth from October 01, 1974 onwards)

  • Exempted from military service

  • University graduate with a Bachelorís Degree

  • Good command of both spoken and written English

  • TOEIC / TOEFL / IELTS (within ONE year) or ICAO English (minimum level 4)

  • Excellent health and good eyesight

  • Graduated from a flying school recognised by the Thai Department of Civil Aviation

  • Holding a Thai CAA Commercial Pilotís Licence

  • Currently flying fixed-wing aircraft (only)

  • Minimum height of 163 cms.

  The Group Written Test is in TWO parts:

  • Technical & General Aviation Knowledge Test (100 Questions):

    • Applicants will be tested on their knowledge of technical and general aviation (from PPL up to  ATPL). Applicants may also be tested on their abilities in subjects essential for pilots, like high school mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, general science, and general knowledge.

  • English Knowledge Test (50 Questions):

    • Applicants will be tested on their abilities in listening, reading comprehension, structure, grammar, and vocabulary (TOEIC - TOEFL level)

  • Applicants must be at the test room on time. They must also wear shirt and tie, and bring their applicant ID, Thai Identification card, and some pens (black or blue), pencils, and erasers. Applicants are not allowed to take computers, calculators, mobile phones, or other personal belongings into the test room.

  • Applicants must pass the Group Written Test with a score of at least 80% in order to qualify for the next step.

Thai Air Asia was established by the Shin Corporation on December the 8th, 2003, in partnership with the larger Malaysian-owned low-budget airline, Air Asia.
